Superintendent Barbara Jenkins welcomed Governor Rick Scott to the Mid Florida campus yesterday, and it was an amazing display of all that is right with OCPS CTE! Governor Rick Scott came to speak with Career and Tech Ed Directors from around the state about his new budget initiative and then met with the press. The topic at the media event was Scott’s $20 million proposed funding to help CTE both recruit and serve students around the state. The Governor, alongside the Florida Commissioner of Education, Pam Stewart, expressed their commitment to CTE and building Florida’s workforce.
During the press conference, the Governor recognized Outstanding CTE Student Alex Koontz, a graduate of the Diesel Technology program; Mr. Rob Sutton owner of Kenworth of Central Florida and one of our industry partners, as an Outstanding Industry Partner; and Alan Lynch, Program Director of The Launch Site as an Outstanding CTE Educator for his efforts in STEM Education.
Senior Director Alex Heidelberg and his team did an amazing job of putting our best foot forward, from the Skills USA and Hospitality students who played hosts, to the diesel students who represented all that is right in CTE, to the Staffulty who made things work, to finding just the right person to hold the Superintendent’s purse during the press conference, it was indeed a great CTE Day.
